Job Purpose
The Department of the Premier, Western Cape Government, has an opportunity for a competent and innovative individual to render a professional English and Afrikaans legislative language editing, translation and language advisory service. This post is based in Cape Town, CBD.
Minimum Requirements
An appropriate 3-year B-Degree (equivalent or higher qualification); A minimum of 3 years relevant operational experience.
Recommendation
Experience in rendering an English and Afrikaans language editing, translating and language advisory service in relation to legislation, legislative instruments, legal- and other documents; Additional qualification in editing, translating and proofreading documents.
Key Performance Areas
Language edit, proofread and format draft provincial legislation (draft bills and regulations) other legislative instruments, legal- and other documents; Translate, quality control, revise and format translations (English and Afrikaans) of legislation, legislative instruments, legal- and other documents; Render a language advisory service (deal with language queries, compile and maintain a database of terminology, rules and templates).
Competencies
Knowledge of the following: Language editing, translating and proofreading legislation, legislative instruments, legal and other documents (English and Afrikaans); Skills needed: Written and verbal communication; Proven computer literacy (MS Office); Planning and organisational; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
Remuneration
R 424 104 per annum (Salary level 9)
Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD), the middle-management service (MMS) and contract positions are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. MMS remuneration packages are flexible and may be individually structured as prescribed. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
